Data Warehouse

I am excited to share my latest publication Data Warehouse with you. The book has been written by a team of well-known experts and is intended to be a comprehensive “go to” manual for the manifold legal questions which need to be addressed when building and running a Data Warehouse, which has become a basic requirement for any Big Data Pool as well as for the handling of various digital business models because of its many powerful features.

These include the ability to structure different data into various schemes, the ability to combine different data sources and to permit convenient access and management at any time.  The goal of a Data Warehouse is to have and give a quick, detailed, controlled and meaningful overview of the data in a company to shareholders, clients, authorities, investors… or indeed those requiring such an overview according to the respective data driven business models.

Of course, it is essential to ensure compliance with the various laws in question while still being able to realize the potential of data sharing, data economy, data automatization and data monetarisation in its entirety for the various manifold data-driven business models.

With a well-conceived and designed Data Warehouse any company should be able to improve its responsiveness by using real-time-data and being able to transform data into usable formats in order to increase its revenues with Big Data Analysis, AI developments, Industry 4.0, digital ecosystems and more to fully realize its commercial potential with regard to its respective data driven business model. Only those who have and can operate such a Data Warehouse will remain serious players in the digital age and can provide data exactly, consistently, relevantly, and legally on an up-to-date basis, as a “single point of reference,” and on a “need to know basis” for various digital business models.

This legal guide will assist you in the following areas:

  • addresses cross-jurisdictional issues of a Data Warehouse environment such as issues of data protection, information security, antitrust law, Open Data, various legal forms and operator roles, blockchain technology and liability risks
  • explains the technical background of a Data Warehouse clearly and simply
  • discusses practical relevant legal questions
  • offers concrete, practice-oriented recommendations, instructions for planning, setting up and operating a Data Warehouse – all of which are supplemented by numerous guiding principles and illustrations.

This legal handbook has been conceived for companies, lawyers working in IT and data protection law, data protection authorities, universities, associations, software developers…

I always look forward to hearing what my readers have to say!

Big Data and Law

My publication is Big Data and Law, which is available in a Chinese edition as well as the German and English versions. The book is a comprehensive “go to” manual for all legal questions about data protection and GDPR.

Big Data and Law is to be viewed as an essential guide for managing complex legal challenges in Big Data projects. While the book was originally intended for lawyers, its accessible language, graphs and other visuals have turned it into a general reference guide for all professionals, including data experts, managers, analysts, consultants and auditors.

The world of data protection can be intricate and multi-faceted and, in the post COVID world, data privacy protection will surely remain a hot topic for a long time to come. I am certain that Big Data and Law will serve as an invaluable aid to both legal experts and others who need to navigate the legal world of Big Data with confidence.

I always look forward to constructive feedback from my readers!
